Ssalamu'lekum! This is Samira at your service...

I, Samira, was born in a fishing village outside of Rabat, Morocco. However as I scribe this now I live within the borders of the lands of Adria in the Duchy of Alhambra. The year is 1171.

As for the journey that has brought me to these noble lands, it would be best to start the circumstances of my birth I suppose.

I have never known my father other than he was a wanderer who somehow managed to seduced my mother before running off. As for my mother, being the strong willed Berber woman she is, ran a brothel for the men in the nearby soldier encampment in Rabat. That is, until the Almohads (an Islamic puritanical sect) came from the North Atlas Mountains and started enforcing their beliefs upon us. I was born an Almoravid Berber if you are curious, we were criticized and routed (from our own country!) of leading "immoral" life styles. Simply because we allow our women to ride horses, play music and drinking wine! My gypsy blood curdles at the thought of no music! What could be more divine! Either way we were forced to flee our country.

Because of our good standing with the soldiers we secured a place on a ship to Italy...
