I, Mathe Brakkewinde, am a Saxon born in the spring of 966 to humble beginnings. I am the only son to a Dutchman, Alvin Highwaters and the second son to a Saxon, Donna of Decatur, who 6 years earlier was impregnated by the Sheriff of Polk. My Father was a traveling merchant and my Mother a domestic. My older Brother claimed no kinship to my Father and when he reached the age of manhood, struck out to make his own way in the world. As I was heir to my fathers fortune, it fell to me to continue my Fathers occupation on the day he would become too feeble to continue. It did not take very long for me to know that my destiny was not in Merchanting, so when I reached my manhood, I joined Military service. I had an ability of leadership, skill with a blade, a thirst for knowledge, and inconceivable good looks. I was quickly noticed by my Lord to be an asset to the force. During the Battle of Golden Harvest, I stood alone in combat, to face a feckless Welsh King, his freeborn concubine, and a mercenary from the outlands and soundly defeated them all. If not for the treachery of a Frenchman from Missou le Mont, my victory would have won me great riches. The following spring, word had spread that the death of the Welsh King was only a ruse. After he commissioned a drunken Troll to slander me, I took up arms and voice against the dishonorable King and separated the western part of his Kingdom into a new Kingdom where Chivalry is law and Honour is prized. With that bold move and the rallying of other Nobles to my side, I was Knighted by my peers and honoured by my friends. I am now the Consort to a Queen and oversee these new Kingdoms of Chivalry and guide their populace in learning what we can and teaching what we know.
This is the True story of Sir Mathe Brakkewinde, as told in the Chronicles of the Daffodil.
